APEDA — the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority — is a Government of India body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry that regulates and promotes exports of scheduled agricultural and processed food products from India. APEDA registration is mandatory for exporters of scheduled products and provides significant benefits including financial assistance, market development support, and export credibility.
Which Products Require APEDA Registration?
APEDA registration is mandatory for exporters of the following scheduled products: Fresh fruits and vegetables, processed fruits and vegetables, meat and meat products, poultry and poultry products, dairy products, confectionery, biscuits and bakery products, honey and jaggery, cocoa and cocoa products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cereals and cereal products, groundnuts and groundnut products, pickles and chutneys, Guar gum and guar gum products, and floriculture products. Agro commodity traders dealing in mustard oil, soybean, pulses, grains, and spices for export also benefit significantly from APEDA registration.

A valid RCMC is required for claiming export incentives under MEIS/RoDTEP schemes, applying for APEDA financial assistance programs, obtaining Certificate of Origin for scheduled products, and participating in APEDA-organized trade fairs and buyer-seller meets.
Financial Assistance Available for APEDA-Registered Exporters
APEDA provides financial assistance under the following categories: Market Development (participation in international trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, trade delegations) — up to 50% reimbursement of expenses. Infrastructure Development (cold storage, pack house, processing unit) — capital subsidy up to 25%. Quality Development (lab testing, certification, HACCP, ISO, organic certification) — up to 50% reimbursement. Packaging Development (new packaging design and testing) — assistance for SME exporters.
